HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BLOG!
Wow... I just was checking out my archives, and found that the ol' blog is about a year old. Nice work, me!
Diana and I were in bed last night flipping the channels. "Leave it to Beaver" was on, and she didn't recognize what it was. It wasn't like it was a weird part or anything; Wally and the Beav were having a little heart to heart. When she heard the names "Wally" and "Beaver", she guessed "Beaver the Cleaver"? She's so cute and television-retarded at the same time. Seriously, I think we could count on one hand the cumulative number of episodes she's seen of Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie, Happy Days, M*A*S*H, I Love Lucy, The Munsters, Gilligan's Island, and Leave It To Beaver. And we didn't talk about it, but I have doubts about The Love Boat, too.
I'm not saying I'm a TV god or anything, but these, to me, represent some serious classics, and shows that I grew up with (when my parents weren't home and I was allowed to watch as much glorious TV as I wanted!) Nor do I (of course) think anything worse of Diana at all. It just kind of astounds me, for some reason, as these shows strike me as sort of ubiquitous fundamentals. I vowed that I would gather a representitive sample of each of those shows and watch them with her, but I'm not sure how I could accomplish that.
I think I did good work today. There is really nasty task that we programmers have to do when we're done with out programs and submitting them to the testing group. We have to find component that our program depends on, and write them out in a list. Then we have to find every component that THOSE components depend on, and add those to the list. And so on, until you get to components that don't depend on others. I think I've just written a small tool that will do that (pain in the ass) job automatically. My boy Bruce had the idea, and we talked about doing it on a weekend or after hours or something, but I had some time today and was able to get a good start on it, and stayed late tonight while Diana was working to get it finished up. I hope he can test it tomorrow, and release it on the masses! I hope it goes well, as stuff like this can directly influence year-end reviews, raises, and bonuses and whatnot.
