Updates

It has begun.

"Allison, you need to lie down and go to sleep."
"Why?"
"Because it's nighttime and you're tired and you need to rest."
"Why?"
"Because you've had a big day with lots of running around and you'll have another big day tomorrow."
"Why"?

It took every ounce of strength to resist saying "Because I said so!"  I think I eventually said "Goodnight" and walked out of the room.  Much wailing and gnashing of teeth ensued.

The question "Why?" is only days old for Allison.  I wonder if it will catch on.  We can answer what/where/who questions very easily, but "why" is a whole new beast.

The other big game for Allison lately is figuring out what letter begins a word.  "What does bubb-oes start with?"  I'll have her say the word a few times, she'll make a few random guesses.  But as soon as I say the letter sound, like "buh-buh-bubbles", she gets it right away.

I was recently out one evening, and Diana texted me:  "She's lying there talking to herself, including '2 and 5 make 7' and 'Wiwy starts with W!'"  (She does simple counting on her fingers, and Wiwy is "Lilly", her friend).  So cute.

Oh, and for the record, I think it's been made clear that she prefers to be called "Allison" instead of "Allie".  She definitely self-identifies as "Allison".  So I pass that on for what it's worth.

In other news, I golfed with Iwan and his dad and Baditude's dad on Monday.  Last year, Iwan won a spot to play on the South Course of Torrey Pines the day after the Buick Invitational, but we got rained out.  So they did a really great thing and invited those people back this year.  So we got to play on the exact same course from the exact same tees as the pros.  It was awesome.  I had a great time, and played some of my best golf ever.  I've never shot under 100 there, but on Monday I shot a 101.  Considering the additional length of the course and challenging pin placements, I was very pleased with this.  It was a wonderful day, and all the grandstands and TV towers were still set up, so it was fun to imagine them filled with people.  There was even a local news crew there, and we got filmed for the evening news, which was pretty cool.

Finally... this brought a tear to my eye:
