Montanny

I left off last week with Allison sick.  She's doing much, much better now.  Diana actually was feeling pretty bad, too, with a fever and cough and cold.  She actually missed a day of school!  But she's doing a lot better, too.  I thought I'd miss all this yuckiness, but I took too many coughs to the face, and wiped up too much snot to avoid it, and have fought off a cold over the last week or so.

All just in the nick of time, because this is my weekend vacation to Montana!  I awoke this morning at some ungodly hour (the first number was a 4!), kissed the wife goodbye and hopped out of bed, bound of Whitefish.  Travel was exceptionally easy.  On my first flight, I was in a window seat and the middle seat was empty.  Not only that, but there Wifi on the flight, and decent connection at that!  So I was able to spread out and get comfortable and read all my news and bits during the flight.  Made the time pass very quickly.

I had a brief layover in Salt Lake City, and then a short flight to Kalispell.  On that flight, I was in a row of two with no one sitting next to me.  So again, I could spread out.  No Wifi, but I resumed my quest to complete all the Kings Quest games (I call it "King's Quest Quest!")  I made some further progress through KQ4, and all of a sudden, we were there.

I was really hoping for more winter-y conditions in Montana, but it's definitely very spring-y here.  There is some snow on the ground, but it's very crusty, having been thawed and refrozen so many times.  It was sunny and clear when I landed, which my parents were thrilled about.  Apparently this is the 7th sunny day of 2010 or something close to that.

We had a nice lunch at the local restaurant, then off to my "spoons" lesson.  My mom's personal trainer, I learned, plays the spoons.  You know, bluegrass music playing, holding a pair of spoons and slapping them off your leg and hand.  This lady really loves showing off her spooning, and my mom thought it would be something I'd like.  I wasn't really very excited about it, but it was short, and the lady was super nice, and it's another silly skill that I can try to get under my belt.  If nothing else, Allison will like it, and I'll do anything for her.

We rented some boots and a snowboard in sight of Big Mountain, and I got all pumped to hit the slopes.  We're heading up bright and early tomorrow morning, and I can't wait.

When we finally got home, I did some reading, and my Pops and I played a couple rounds of "Lost Cities".  Good game that he seemed to enjoy.  I also brought "Babel", so we'll bust that out, too in due time.

Survivor is on right now, my I've been outvoted and the Olympics are on.  I'll try to catch Survivor online sometime later.

I miss my ladies already, and know that it's asking a lot of Diana to be in charge for so long.  So it's not without a little guilt and homesickness that I enjoy my first evening in Montana.  But if nothing else, some time away will definitely recharge the batteries.
