Allison: I want to be... Super Girl for Halloween. (After deciding between that and a butterfly and Cinderella)
Me: Ooh, that's neat. Do you know what Supergirl does?
Allison: No...
Me: She's super strong. And she can run really fast. And she can jump really high... like over a HOUSE!
Allison: OH! That's surprising! (pause) What does surprising mean?
And later, when she was pissed at having to leave the store.
Allison: But I waaaaanted to stay at the store.
Me: I know, but we can't always do the things we want.
Allison: Why not?
Me: Well, because we live in a society of people, and need to share responsibilities.
Allison: Oh. Ok.
