Allison has just started to grasp money and buying things.
We went to the bookstore yesterday, and she found a book that came with a number of little toys.
"I want that!" she said.
"No, we're not buying that," I said.
"Why not?"
"Because it costs money. Do you have any money?"
"No... do you have money?"
"Yes."
"Do you have ONE money?"
"Yes, I have lots of money."
"Then we can buy it!"
"No, we're not buying that."
"Why not? I want it!"
I was actually at quite a loss. She wanted that toy. I had money to buy it. I could see her saying "What's the problem, here?" I felt myself saying all the things that parents say to their kids all the time that just don't make any sense to the kid (and, to a certain degree, myself still).
