Weekend update...
So, another weekend passed. Diana and I hooked up with Iwan Saturday afternoon and played 9 holes of golf at the course henceforth known as Mini's North. Fun little par 3 (mostly) course. Diana was a little hesitant to golf after not playing so long, but I think she played as good as I've seen her play. I hope we can get out there more often.
Sunday, we decided to hit up the beach. We got all our stuff together and all lotioned up, and drove the, what, 4 miles west to the beach. In the span of those 4 miles, though, the weather went from completely cloudless and sunny and hot to completely overcast and chilly-looking. So, we turned around and went to a local park and planted ourselves under a tree and read our books. It was nice and relaxing. That evening, we went to see Star Wars (my second time, Diana's first). I enjoyed it equally well the second time, and Diana liked it as well. There are some movies that are sometimes more fun to see the second time around, but I don't think I enjoyed it any more or less than my initial viewing. Still, I was pumped to see it again (as my initial midnight viewing was a little foggy).
A guy I know at work has been in the lunchroom reading during breaks. I happened to see what he was reading: Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. I thought to myself "Wow, I really liked that book, but I'm not really sure I really *got* it all the first time around." So I picked it up again and started reading, and I'm really enjoying it. In a sentence, it's a pretty epic story with multiple storylines (taking place both during WWII and the present) where cryptography and codes are a central theme. Of particularly interest at my current stage of the story is: once a code is broken, how do you then use the information without revealing that you've broken the codes (leading to another, perhaps more interesting level of encrypting information). Good stuff. Technical, but very accessible to the masses.
And with that, I'm out.
