How about a quick update...
For those who don't know, Mama S. had to have some surgery on her neck. She's had neck and wrist/hand pain for as long as I can remember, and it turns out she has a condition where the bones in her spinal column are compressing her spinal cord. Since this isn't really something that generally gets better by itself, and can lead to not walking or not using your hands, surgery was necessary. I guess they went in and cut out some bone from some of her neck vertabrae to create more room for her spinal cord. Sounds pretty scary, but it all seems to have gone ok. She's in the hospital now to make sure she heals up nicely and so they can give her sweet, sweet drugs for the pain. I was glad to visit this morning and see she was all right.
In other news, there's not much other news. Work is going along just fine. I'm sort of on my own this week, as my project lead is out for the week. It's a little stressful, 'cause I'm kind of new to the project I'm on, and if there are problems, I'm in the hot seat to fix 'em. Luckily, nothing big so far.
Diana leaves tomorrow for some sort of math nerd conference up in Smell-A (Anaheim!). I'm excited to hear how it goes. That means that I'm going to be Bachelor Adam for the next few days, and then hastily clean everything up the afternoon that she comes home. But we won't tell her that. :)
Last night was supposed to be a softball game, but it was cancelled because the lights weren't working. Something I could have been told BEFORE I drove out there, but whatever. Tomorrow I have training here at work. We have a Microsoft database guy in to give us lessons, which I'm excited about. I know nothing about good stored procedure writing, and since it's a lot of what we do here, it will be good to get the inside scoop. As it turns out, it's easy to write stored procs, and it's just as easy to write BAD stored procs which can bring down the database.
Diana and I saw "Millions" on Sunday. Not bad. Not great. We watched another "Inspector Morse" via Netflix last night, and it was really good. The main actor is just so good at his role. Good times.
So, that's about it for now.
