Money

I've recently been alternative ways to make money. I had a lot of fun with my stint in Second Life, but since all gambling was banned, my sales have tailed off sharply. I still make an occasional buck or two from the one or two items I have for sale, but I'm in search of something new.

Metacafe.com offers money for videos that get over 20,000 hits. On a whim, I created the below video. In about 24 hours, it has about 4,000 hits.

Amazing Candle Trick - Free videos are just a click away

There are some rules you need to follow... the video has to be over 20 seconds long, and you have to have all the rights to everything shown (including background music, etc). What's a little unfortunate is that you could make a video of a girl in a low cut top folding origami and you'll get 20,000 hits easily. No really that sporting, but if I knew a girl willing to do it, I'm not sure it would be beyond me. :)

The other little experiment is Google ads. You may notice on the right side of my blog little text ads showing up. I have no idea how much it pays (it pays either per click or per time it is just seen). Probably a dumb idea, but I figured it would be worth a shot.

We're not particularly strapped for cash or anything, but it's fun to try new schemes and see what works.

Hey, Adam. I use google ads on my website, but they aren't that effective anymore. The first day I signed up, I made $35, and in the first year I probably averaged $15/day. It has dropped off steadily since; this year, I'm averaging about $1/day. It's almost no longer worth it!

Wetpixel still does well on google ads, but people are mostly arriving there via searches when they want to buy stuff or travel.

Yeah, I'm not that impressed so far (my lack of traffic in the first place notwithstanding).

As I said, just little experiments. :)
