"Climbed"

Every night, Diana goes in and reads with Allison in her bed. When she says goodnight and leaves, Diana leaves a pile of books on Allison’s bed. I come in and cuddle and talk and say goodnight, and we recite the sleep rules.

Since she has heard the books so many times, she has them memorized. Diana was amazed when Allison “read” a 60 page book to her, completely from memory (granted, there’s not that many words per page, but still… 60 pages!)

The other night, she called me in “for one LAST question.” She was reading her Winnie the Pooh book, and it said “Winnie the Pooh climbed…” She pointed at the word “climbed”, and said “KUH - LUH - EYE - EMM…. Bed? Why does it say ‘bed’?”

I had to explain the silent ‘b’ in “climbed”, and, once again, cursed English for being so difficult.
