My weekly blog entry. Take 1.
Diana and I had peeps over for the Superbowl on Sunday, and therefore spent a lot of Saturday and Sunday cleaning up the house, which we'd sort of let go. I really don't enjoy "cleaning up", so to speak, but I do enjoy a nice clean house, so that was good.
On Saturday, I found a little time to sneak away and play a round of golf with Iwan at Lomas. We were paired with some pleasant young ladies, which was more fun than grumpy old men or rowdy kids. Watching and listening to them was really interesting, 'cause they seemed really pretty intimidated and rattled at the start of the round.
The idea of intimidation is a weird thing in golf. I suppose because it is such a structured game with a lot of spoken and unspoken rules, there is a lot of room for faux pas. Also, because only one person is acting at a time, you are almost always in the public spotlight when you're making a shot. I remember being nervous as hell when I first started golfing with strangers. It was weird to see it from the other side. While Iwan and I were technically better golfers than they were, I can't imagine anyone more easy-going and casual out there than the two of us out on the course. At some point, when one said that they were sort of nervous, I said outright "Look, we're just out her to have some fun. There's no need to be nervous". That seemed to help a little. That and a beer on the 8th. :)
Iwan usually gives me a few strokes. When we finished, I had a 71, and Iwan had 6 less than that, so we decided that he should give me 6 strokes. We tied! (Talk about easy going! :) Good times. I want to golf more.
Sunday was the Big Game. In attendance were Iwan and Sara, Gabe, Rhiannon and Landon, Eryn and his mom, and of course Adam and Diana. I have to be honest when I say that I was a little sketched when Eryn said his mom was coming because of some of the stories I'd heard (I trust she won't be reading this!), but it wasn't a big deal at all. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and the game was fun to watch. Discostup was at the forefront of my thoughts during much of the game, because I knew if the Eagles won, he'd need some serious intervention. My favorite part of the game was witnessing the worst coin-flip ever. I can't believe the coin didn't turn over a single time in the air!
In other news, Diana was assigned her very own classroom. This might be totally wrong, but as far as I can remember, this is the first time (either ever or in a long time) that she's had professional space of her very own. She's always been tutoring at someone's house, or sharing rooms with various people, and I'm really excited and proud that she has her own spot now. I think it's important to her. I checked it out last night after work and helped put up some stuff on her walls, and it was really exciting to be in such a new building. So much potential. Pretty cool.
That's about it for now. One of my workboys told me he's resigning, which is a bummer. He's kind of OCD and works REALLY hard, and I think he's burned himself out pretty good. He said he wants to get into Christian counselling, which is quite a career change, but sounds like it will be good for him. Kind of a bummer to hear that he's leaving, though, as he's not only a good guy, but is a huge knowledge source. So, boo.
