Argh. Why does this damn thing lose my posts sometimes?
I feel like we're getting away with something. When we put an offer down on the house, we were the only offer so far, and of course we offered lower than the asking price, since we're good hagglers. We eventually agreed on a price that was still lower than the asking price. Since then, we've had the house inspected, and have come up with a list of things that we'd like to have repaired, and this was presented to the seller. They have refused to do all but one of the repairs (some of which were as minor as changing a lightbulb). The apparent situation is that since accepting our offer, the seller has had a number of other offers, undoubtedly for more than ours. I'm guessing that they're going to do all they can in their power (which luckily isn't very much) to make us back out of the deal. In that case, the house would go back on the market, and she instigate a bidding war and make off like a bandit. But we're too smart, and not going to take the bait. :)
Of course, we'll have to do a bunch of repairs ourselves, or hire someone to do them, but I figure it will be a good way to get introduced to the house, and it will be fun anyways.
